Anyone who wants to use Plant Base on Linux can get a free licence by simply asking for one.

This offer is available right now and probably remain at least while the Linux edition is in the Beta phase.  Once issued, the licence is permanent, will never expire and may be used for all future versions of Plant Base.  The  licence registration code will only work for the Linux edition – unlike the full paid licence it will not enable the Windows or Mac editions, or in certain cases Android. A new update for the Plant Base Linux edition – 2.1.10 Beta 5

There is only one change from the recently released 2.1.10 Beta 4, but this is significant for anyone wishing to install on one of the latest popular Linux distro versions. ( read more . . . )

The Linux desktop edition of Plant Base has been updated to the same level as the Windows and Mac edition. Also some extra bug fixes and other small changes specific to the Linux edition have been included.

This is still definitely only at the Beta stage! However, I’m really pleased with how it has been running on my own systems and it has been perfectly usable here.  There have been no issues at all with the database access side of things. Not surprising perhaps, as this shares the same code as the other editions. Development and initial testing have been done on two MX Linux systems, 64-bit and 32-bit, with additional testing on Linux Mint. ( read more . . . )

At the moment I am revisiting the development of a Plant Base edition for Linux. This was briefly looked at before but this a more concerted effort and a good winter project! Strictly speaking Plant Base already runs on Linux, in that we have the existing Android edition and Android is built around a Linux kernel.
